Hey everyone! I've been having some trouble with my PC lately, and I suspect my trusty GTX 1080Ti is on its last legs. Here's my current setup:
- CPU: Intel i7-10700k @ 3.80GHz
- Storage: 256GB SSD x1, 465GB SSD x2, 931GB HDD x1
- GPU: Asus GeForce GTX 1080Ti
- Motherboard: MSI MAG Z490 TOMAHAWK
- RAM: 32GB DDR4 (4x8GB)
- PSU: Corsair HX1000i
- OS: Windows 11
I mainly play Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and recently started revisiting GTA V Enhanced. Unfortunately, I have to drop the graphics settings significantly to prevent crashes and freezes. I'm considering upgrading to an ASUS GeForce RTX 5070 Ti TUF OC with 16GB GDDR7, especially since it's on sale for Black Friday. Will this upgrade help, or am I likely to run into bottlenecks with my other components? Any advice would be great!

Your CPU is a bit dated, so there's definitely a chance of being bottlenecked in certain games, particularly in CPU-heavy titles like Microsoft Flight Simulator. Based on some benchmarks I found, newer CPUs can significantly outperform yours, especially at the settings you might be aiming for. If you do upgrade the GPU, you might still want to consider prioritizing a CPU upgrade later to really maximize your gaming performance.
Upgrading to the RTX 5070 Ti will definitely give you a significant performance boost for your games, especially given how resource-intensive they can be. However, keep in mind that your CPU might bottleneck a bit. It won't completely hold you back, but you might not see the full potential of the new GPU right away. It's still a great move if you're looking to improve your gaming experience!
Thanks! That's reassuring. I figured it would help, and I appreciate your insight on the CPU.
It really depends on how soon you're planning to upgrade more components. I've got a similar CPU, and while it can work with a good GPU, there's a chance that you might not see the best performance from top-tier cards like the 3080 or even the 5070 Ti if you're not upgrading the CPU next. Just something to consider!
Good point! I plan to eventually upgrade the CPU, but I was hoping the GPU could hold me over for a bit.

Thanks for the info! I had a feeling I needed to upgrade the CPU too, especially since the GPU is pretty old. I'll have to plan for that!
