Hey everyone! I've got a pretty dated PC setup that I built around 2017 primarily for video editing. Over time, I've added more RAM, upgraded my GPU, and added storage, but now I'm starting to feel its age, especially with some USB issues and a lack of modern ports. Here are my current specs:
- MSI X99A motherboard (not a fan of it)
- Intel i7-6800K CPU
- 64GB of DDR4 RAM at 3200MHz (mixed 4x8 and 2x16 sticks)
- Nvidia RTX 3060
- 10 internal hard drives (3 SSDs and 7 HDDs)
Since I'm mainly using this for Premiere Pro and working on 4K videos, I'm wondering if it makes sense to invest in an upgrade now, given the high prices on components. I've seen some upgrade kits like [this one](https://www.materiel.net/produit/202412200051.html) that seem reasonably priced, or I could opt for a cheaper setup that allows me to reuse some of my RAM. So my main questions are:
1. Will the performance boost from an upgrade be worth the money spent?
2. Should I stick with DDR4 and reuse my existing RAM, or wait for prices to stabilize?
3. Any advice on whether to lean towards AMD or Intel for future upgrades? Thanks a lot, and sorry if my English isn't perfect!

If you really need all that RAM for video editing, it might not be the best move to downsize. But if you can shave it down to 32GB and sell your current RAM, you could recoup some cash. That said, your CPU is probably holding you back more than anything, and replacing it will give you a nice boost in performance, especially if you’re focusing on video games too.
Regarding video editing, you'll still see improvements since a newer CPU would handle tasks more efficiently.
