Is Upgrading My PC Hardware Worth It?

I'm considering upgrading my current PC hardware, but I'm unsure if the new components will really make a difference. Here's what I have now:

- **GPU**: RTX 5070
- **CPU**: Ryzen 7 5700X3D
- **Motherboard**: Gigabyte AB350M-GAMING 3
- **RAM**: 4 x 8 GB DDR4
- **SSD (OS and Programs)**: 870 EVO
- **SSD (Games Only)**: Samsung 980 Pro NVMe
- **PSU**: 750 Watts

I'm planning to upgrade to:

- **CPU**: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D (I've been advised to get this instead of the Ryzen 5 9600X)
- **Motherboard**: MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk WiFi
- **RAM**: Corsair Vengeance DDR5 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MHz
- **PSU**: Corsair RM850e

My budget is about £800. Do you think this upgrade is a good choice?

Well, honestly, unless you're facing some major CPU bottleneck in your gaming, the Ryzen 7 5700X3D is still a solid choice. The performance gain with the Ryzen 7 7800X3D might not be worth the investment, especially for gaming at 1440p or higher.

Yeah, I get that. If you're gaming at higher resolutions, your GPU will likely mask any CPU limitations anyway.

Your setup looks good, but consider if you really need to upgrade your PSU. Also, switching your SSD setup might help with loading times. I'd recommend your NVMe SSD as the boot drive for better performance.

That's interesting, I didn't think about moving my SSDs around. But I prefer keeping my games separate from programs to avoid interfering with my coding work.

I think you might be overestimating the performance increase. The Ryzen 5 9600X could be just about 14% faster, but is that really worth the cost? I mean, you're looking at a 4% improvement over the 5800X3D in benchmarks. That's not a huge leap, especially compared to your existing CPU.

I see your point. I mainly need the new motherboard since mine is a decade old, so maybe I should consider other options.

Honestly, I’d suggest sticking with your current setup for a bit longer. If you haven't upgraded in 10 years, maybe just wait for the next hardware cycle to see better options. The 7800X3D is definitely a more future-proof investment.

Thanks for the advice! Might just bide my time and see what's around the corner instead.
