I'm considering upgrading from my AMD Ryzen 5 5800X to a 9800X3D and pairing it with a new MSI AM5 motherboard and 32GB of DDR5, which I found for $700. I currently have 16GB of DDR4 memory and a GeForce RTX 4070 GPU, and I don't plan on upgrading my graphics card anytime soon. I'm curious if this CPU upgrade is worth it in terms of performance gains, even slight ones. I've heard that minimizing CPU bottleneck can help unlock the full potential of the 4070. What do you think?

It really depends on what you aim to achieve. I upgraded from a 5800X3D to a 9800X3D and play at both 1440p and 4K. For 1440p I target 235fps, and the upgrade was definitely worth it for that. But if you're shooting for around 115fps at 4K, it might not be as beneficial. Your upgrade is even more significant, so it could help a lot depending on your gaming goals.
If you're gaming at 1080p, the upgrade seems worth it. For 1440p, maybe. However, at 4K, I’d say stick with what you have. You might be better off getting a used 5700X3D or another 5800X3D and saving up for the next few years.
Before jumping to conclusions, check your GPU utilization. If it's under 90%, upgrading could lead to noticeable improvements. If you're already maxed out over 90%, it might not make much difference.
In the end, it really boils down to your gaming preferences. If you focus on CPU-heavy titles, then definitely consider the upgrade. But otherwise, if it's not a heavy workload, you might not feel the difference.
Game settings and types matter a lot. If you’re mostly playing CPU-intensive games, the upgrade could be worthwhile. But if you play lighter games or don’t push your settings hard, it might not make a huge difference.
