I'm considering a PC upgrade since I'm currently using a 7800X3D paired with a 5090 and 32GB of Expo RAM. I'd prefer to go for 64GB RAM, but prices are way too high right now. I've got an MSI B650 motherboard, but I'm thinking about upgrading that too. I mainly use my computer for productivity tasks like picture editing and AI, and while I game occasionally, it's usually on single-player titles, not competitively. Now, I'm wondering if switching to the 9850X3D makes sense, or if there's a better option out there. Or should I just stick to my current build and consider upgrading next year?

The 9950X3D or 9950X3D2 should be available by April 21—definitely consider those!
The 9850X3D is essentially a factory-overclocked version of the 9800X3D, but it sacrifices some power efficiency. Given your focus on productivity and occasional gaming, you might want to wait for the 9950X3D-2 that AMD is launching soon, or you could hold out for Zen 6, which shouldn't be far off. Hang tight!
If you can hold off until next year, you might find something that offers a more significant improvement rather than just slight bumps between the 7800 and 9850.
I'd suggest looking into the 9950X3D or the upcoming 9950X3D2. Those could serve you much better in the long run!
Honestly, the 7800X3D is already solid, especially at ultra settings for 1440p and above. You might not see a significant difference, so I'd recommend hanging onto it a bit longer.
Totally worth it! A new CPU will definitely scratch that itch for a while. After that, you can consider grabbing 64GB RAM and maybe even look into upgrading other components down the road. It's a slippery slope—before you know it, you'll be eyeing a 6090 too!
LOL, I hear you! By then, who knows what I'll be upgrading to!
I'd personally wait. You're already rocking a great setup, and there are rumors about the 10000 series coming out soon that might give you a more substantial upgrade. Better to be patient!
For your use case, a 9900X or 9950X could also be more than sufficient. If you're content with your current performance, just stick with what you have.

Yeah, sticking with your 7800X3D for now sounds smart. Good call!
