I'm currently using an MSI 4080 Gaming Trio that I picked up from my brother for $400. Now, my other brother is offering me $600 to help towards buying a 5080 Trio Gaming OC, which would bring the total cost, including a new power supply, to around $900. I'm curious if the performance gain is really worth it before making this leap. From what I've seen, there might be a 10 to 20% improvement in performance, but I'm not fully clear on what that actually means. I game mostly at 1440p, playing titles like Tarkov and Battlefield, and I want to know if this upgrade is financially justified or if I should stick with my current card.

I would suggest sticking with the RTX 4080. In many games, the RTX 5080 has similar performance, and the few instances where it outperforms the 4080 don't justify the hefty price tag.
Honestly, at that price, upgrading might not be the best choice. The performance difference isn't significant enough unless you can sell your 4080 for a good price, which would make the upgrade cost lower. Plus, a new power supply should only set you back about $100.
Are the 4090 or 5090 the only real upgrades then?
Realistically, upgrading to the 5080 won't be worth it, especially if you're gaming at 1440p. It might be a little faster, but you'd hardly notice the difference during gameplay.
So, is it safe to say the 4090 or 5090 are the only big upgrades?

I guess I'll have to look at the 4090 or 5090 for a real upgrade.
