I'm planning on building a new PC with the following components: an i3-10100 CPU, an H510 motherboard, 8GB of DDR4 RAM at 2666MHz, and a basic case and PSU. However, the i3-10100 didn't come from a personal purchase; I salvaged it from a school project where they made artwork out of old computers. I did find another i3-10100 in a different PC, but one of the motherboards has a burned ethernet port, and I can't recall the condition of the second one. My main concern is whether the CPU is likely damaged. Without wanting to spend around INR 8,000 - 9,000 on components only to discover the CPU fails soon after, I'm hoping it's still functional since it was stored properly with a fan and thermal paste still attached. The RAM has been removed, though, which makes me nervous. Additionally, I'm seeking advice on which motherboard to choose, avoiding ASRock due to reliability issues. Is there a reliable AMD setup with similar performance that I should consider? My current setup consists of an i5-3470, a generic H61 motherboard, 16GB DDR3 RAM, and an Nvidia GT-730 GPU, which isn't great. I've added pictures of the motherboard and CPU for reference: [link].

You might want to look into an AM4 platform instead. It could give you better performance, and you can use the DDR4 RAM you're buying right now. Plus, second-hand options for CPUs like the 5600 or 5700X are reasonably priced.

I don't have a DDR4 stick at the moment. Do you think buying a second-hand PC would still be reliable?
