I'm currently building a high-performance gaming rig with a 7900 XTX, 64 GB of DDR5 RAM, and a 9800X3D processor. My setup right now includes an i7 12700KF and it can't really keep up with my 1440p 500 Hz monitor for gaming. I'm considering upping my game with an upgrade to AM5 and the new RTX 5090. Is it really worth it?

If you’re not gaming at 4K or doing heavy tasks that need a ton of VRAM, you might find a 5080 is more than enough. The 5090 would just be overkill unless you really need every single frame, especially for competitive gaming.
If you can swing the price and need that level of performance, it might make sense. Just remember, the pricing for these is pretty high, especially with AI demand driving it up. You'll want to be sure it's really necessary for your gaming style.
Hopefully the performance justifies the cost—ideally it should be like 4x faster than my 7900 XTX.
It really depends on what you mean by 'worth it.' If you’re looking for bang for your buck, the 5090 might not be the best choice. However, if you’re after the absolute top performance for things like 4K gaming or high refresh rates and can afford it, then yes, it could be worth it. Many people don’t have issues with cable management, but keep in mind there are some safety concerns with the design. Personally, I got a 5080 with a similar build and it’s incredible at 1440p—hitting 100+ FPS in most games! The 5090 will definitely boost performance even more!
If I can hit close to 500 FPS at 1440p, maybe it will be worth the upgrade.
Honestly, I don’t think it’s worth it unless you have specific needs for it. The pricing seems more influenced by market demand than actual gaming needs. With some smarter choices, like adjusting your expectations for performance, you might get close to what you're looking for without breaking the bank.
That’s true, but I’m really aiming for those high FPS in my games!
If you have the cash, go for it! I’m building a similar rig with 32 GB DDR5 and I’ve had a blast with it. Although, the performance-to-price ratio on the 5090 is pretty sketchy right now; you won’t find many for under 4-5k.
Yeah, those prices are crazy! I found one at a decent price but I’m still debating whether to make the leap.

I plan on playing at 500 Hz with 1440p, so I’m aiming high!
