Hey everyone! I'm currently using a PC for both CAD work and gaming. Here are my specs: a 9800X3D CPU, an RTX 5090 GPU, a Gigabyte B650M Gaming WiFi motherboard, and 32GB of 6000MHz CL36 RAM. I'm considering upgrading to an X870E ROG Crosshair Hero motherboard, which would cost around $400 AUD. Do you think this upgrade is worth it in terms of performance, or is it just a nice connectivity bonus? Thanks!

No performance uplift at all! Unless you're planning to overclock, which can be a fun hobby, upgrading the motherboard should really focus on what features you need rather than just a brand upgrade.
Not really worth it! Even if the RTX 5090 sometimes hits or goes beyond PCIe 4 bandwidth, you're only looking at a 1-3% performance increase max. Unless you really need the extra connectivity, which seems like a minor deal for you, I'd say skip it.
You’re all set with your current specs! You wouldn’t benefit enough from the upgrade to justify the cost. If anything, just add more RAM if you're looking for a boost in performance for CAD.
The benefits mainly come from the number of PCIe lanes and how they’re arranged. But if you’re not heavily utilizing those features, you probably won’t notice much.
Honestly, I don't think upgrading to that motherboard will give you much of a performance boost. It’s quite expensive for its branding and the advanced power delivery is really geared towards overclockers with fancy cooling setups. For your everyday tasks, it won't make a difference at all.
