Is Windows 11 Making Printer Sharing Difficult?

I'm having a frustrating issue where I RDP into a Windows Server 2016 and can access a shared thermal printer via \usbpc just fine. However, when I'm on any Windows 11 PC (24H2), it prompts me for credentials which never seem to work, whether they're local or domain. I've spent hours trying to sort this out! Has anyone else run into this problem? Just to clarify, we won't be enabling WPP.

It seems that Windows 26100+ has dropped support for some legacy hardware. If your printer model falls into that category, it might not be compatible anymore. It's worth checking if your printer is still on the supported list.

Make sure you're using the latest print drivers and check your printer sharing settings and security settings. Where’s the printer shared from? Is it the 2016 server? That could be part of the issue.

Drivers are fine, and the printer works locally on Win11. It's shared correctly, as the server can print to it. Other Win11 PCs can't connect without being prompted for credentials, and nothing works for logging in. I've set up everything from network settings to firewall checks, still nothing.
