I'm having trouble installing system updates on my PC. After I hit restart, the update process hangs at 92% and then undoes all the changes. I've faced this issue before on my previous Windows system about five or six years ago. It's so frustrating spending hours trying to update the system, especially since I want to try out the new Xbox mode on PC. Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be going wrong?

Hey! A good first step is to run the built-in Windows Update Troubleshooter you can find under the 'troubleshoot' section in the start menu. If that doesn't fix it, try this command in an admin command prompt: "sfc /scannow && dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth". Most of the time one of these will sort things out.
I've been there! It sounds like you've already tried some good methods. Have you thought about checking for BIOS and driver updates first? Sometimes, resolving those can clear up issues during Windows updates.
You might want to consider an in-place upgrade using an OS image from a USB thumb drive. The hang could be due to corrupt system files. You can create it using the Windows Media Creation Tool.
I actually tried running that command after getting into Windows 11 post-failure, but now my whole OS is messed up. Windows apps are broken, the store won’t download anything, and the Reset PC option fails too. This is the last time I beta test a Microsoft feature!
