Hey everyone! I'm facing a frustrating problem with my RAM setup. I have two different sets of RAM that I thought would work well together, but it turns out that's not the case. When trying to use Adobe Premiere Pro, I noticed I'm only getting 16GB of usable RAM instead of the 32GB I expected.
Here's what I have:
- Set 1: Kingston Fury HyperX 3200
- Set 2: Kingston Fury Beast 3600
I found out that Kingston sold HyperX to HP in 2021 and the Beast variant replaced it. They should be similar, but they have different timings and frequencies, which might be causing issues.
I'm running Windows 10, and while I see 32GB in Speccy, my system only recognizes about 16GB of usable memory. Task Manager also indicates 16.1GB is hardware reserved.
I tried changing settings in msconfig, physically rearranged the RAM sticks in the appropriate slots, updated the BIOS, and also experimented with XMP profiles as well as lower frequencies, but nothing seems to improve the situation. Given the differing timings and frequencies, I'm starting to think that might be the root of the problem. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated since I can't currently afford to buy a matching set of faster RAM!

It sounds like you might have run into a compatibility issue between those two RAM sets. The MSI B450 Tomahawk can support various speeds, but since one stick is 3200MHz and the other is 3600MHz, they could be causing problems when they try to work together. Have you tried just using one set at a time to see if that makes a difference? Sometimes the system needs uniformity across the sticks to function properly. Also, when putting them in slots, make sure to follow the motherboard's specific guidelines for optimal performance. Good luck!
I had a similar issue with mismatched RAM. In my case, the motherboard would sometimes reserve memory as hardware reserved when detecting issues with compatibility. Double-checking the slots and making sure you're using the right configurations helped me. Maybe consult the manual for your motherboard again, just to be sure. Don't lose hope – you might get it sorted!
