Issues with my new External SSD: Files getting corrupted

I recently purchased a 1TB external SSD, and while my system recognizes it as 976GB (which I know is typical), I'm facing some frustrating issues. Disk Management shows the drive as Healthy, but performance is not what I expected. I'm only able to transfer around 70 to 130GB before it starts corrupting any new files I attempt to add. I've already tried checking various settings and even ran a quick size test using RMPrepUSB, but it stalls at 95% with unreadable sector errors. I'm currently running another test and plan to do a speed test soon. Has anyone experienced this before? What could be causing these problems? The SSD is labeled as a Generic M.2 Portable SSD SHL-R320 1TB-S7.

Honestly, you probably just purchased a knockoff. Stick with reputable brands in the future; they may be slightly pricier, but they’re much more reliable.

First off, where did you buy the SSD? It's important because a lot of online marketplaces have counterfeit products. If it's from an untrustworthy vendor, that could explain the corruption issues you're experiencing. You might want to check if the SSD is a legitimate product.

I got it from an online store called Jumia.

It sounds like you may have been sold a fake SSD. It's always safer to go for well-known brands. You can also check the drive's specs using software to see if they match what you were promised. If you need help with that, let me know!
