Issues with Opening Files in Protected View on MS Office

I'm facing a frustrating issue where about 10% of my users can't open documents in Protected View on MS Office. Disabling Protected View isn't a secure solution, and files open fine if they're unblocked or accessed from a trusted location. I've seen some suggestions regarding graphic drivers, and I've tried rolling back and updating them, but that hasn't worked. Microsoft support recommended deleting the Office folder in the registry to rebuild it, but still no luck. The problem specifically affects Word and Excel. Additionally, previewing and trying to open files directly from Outlook Classic is also problematic for these users, although the new Outlook does allow previews for Word documents but fails to open them by double-clicking. Anyone else dealt with this issue, and if so, how did you resolve it?

I’m dealing with the same issue on my personal computer, so you’re definitely not alone in this! Have you tried uninstalling all graphic drivers and just using the generic one that Microsoft provides? Apparently, Office 365 doesn’t allow you to turn off hardware acceleration anymore, which could be causing problems.

No solution yet! But doing what you suggested might be worth trying. Let me know if it works for you.

For one user I helped, I ended up just turning off Protected View. I know it’s not the best practice, but it worked for that case. Just keep in mind it may expose them to potential risks.

Yeah, turning off Protected View doesn't seem wise. You might want to look for a better fix.
