I'm an 18-year-old student in my first year of a BCA honors program. I've been feeling lost throughout my course, but recently discovered my interest in DevOps. Now that I understand what DevOps engineers do and what I need to learn, I find it difficult to dedicate time to it or stay consistent. Some say I have time since I'm just starting out, but I'm considering pursuing an MCA after my bachelor's to catch up with my B.Tech peers. I struggle with complex data structures and algorithms, which is why I'm leaning towards DevOps, especially with the tough competition in development. Given my financial constraints, I want to excel where it counts. Can senior DevOps professionals offer advice on how I can overcome my laziness and feelings of being overwhelmed? I'd appreciate any help!

I’m curious, why the rush to get into DevOps?
If you're looking for an internship after your BCA, feel free to reach out to me! I run a DevOps consultation firm and can help you kickstart your career in the field.
Don’t try to learn everything about DevOps all at once while juggling your BCA classes. Start small; maybe automate a simple task first. I felt overwhelmed too, but I found that building a mini tool—like a basic open-source CLI to scan for security flaws—taught me more than just cramming theory. Focus on practical projects; they really help you retain knowledge better!
I’ve worked in DevOps before and suggest you seek out a volunteer role in your community, maybe helping with a local website. Find something you’re passionate about and work with people you enjoy. This experience will not only look great on your resume but will also help you develop valuable skills. Plus, it’s a nice way to ease into practical work!

Thanks for asking! My dad is getting older, so I feel the pressure to achieve something to support him. Plus, the competition is always increasing, and since I’m from a T3 college, we don’t really have campus placements, so I need to be ready for off-campus applications.
