Just upgraded to a Ryzen 5 5600X but getting no display – any ideas?

I recently upgraded my CPU to a Ryzen 5 5600X from a Ryzen 5 4600G. I made sure to install the latest BIOS on my Gigabyte A520M K V2 motherboard, but I'm still not getting any display. All the fans are spinning fine, and my old CPU works perfectly. I hope some tech-savvy folks here can help me figure this out before I take my PC to a technician for a more thorough check. By the way, I bought the CPU about three weeks ago from PCWorth, so I think it's still under warranty and I still have the box.

Just to clarify, the 4600G has an integrated GPU (that's the 'G' part), but the 5600X doesn't come with one. So, make sure your GPU is properly installed because the new CPU won't display anything without it working.

I’ve got an old GTX 1660 Super, that’s why I chose the 5600X.

Are you connecting your monitor to the display port on your motherboard or at the bottom by your GPU? It’s easy to accidentally plug it into the wrong one. You should connect it where your GPU is to get a signal.

Yeah, I'm plugged into the GPU. I even waited 20 minutes for it to boot up but just got a black screen and no 'no signal' message.

It sounds like your new CPU might unfortunately be dead, especially if you've confirmed the BIOS update went through. Since your old CPU is working fine, it's possible that the 5600X you got is faulty.

Damn, I was hoping that wasn't the case. Thanks for the heads-up, I'll ask for a replacement. Yes, I did update to the latest BIOS.

Try resetting the BIOS settings. It might be set to use the old 4600G's integrated GPU as the default display output.

Thanks for the tip!
