Keyboard Disconnects During Gameplay—Need Help Fixing It!

Hey everyone! I'm having a frustrating issue where my keyboard disconnects and reconnects only when I load into a game world, not during the menu screens. Even worse, whenever the keyboard disconnects, any media I'm playing—like YouTube videos or Spotify—pauses automatically. Just to clarify, it's not switching or toggling; it literally just pauses.

I've tried replacing the keyboard and using different USB ports, and I even did a full reset of my PC including reinstalling Windows 11 and updating all my drivers.

The only hint I have is that I've experienced a week of regular crashes, which were logged in the event viewer with error code 41—usually indicating a faulty PSU. My PC is about five years old, so I suspect the PSU might be at fault. The crashes have stopped for now, so I didn't replace it, but should I? Can a faulty PSU really cause my keyboard to disconnect and reconnect like this? I'd appreciate any advice on how to fix it!

First off, try using a different keyboard if you have one lying around. It might also help to plug it into a different USB port—preferably a 2.0 port.

Another thing to check is the USB root hub power management settings. Go to Device Manager, expand 'Universal Serial Bus controllers', right-click each one, go to properties, and in the power management tab, uncheck the option that allows your computer to turn off this device to save power.

Also, running DISM and SFC can help repair issues with Windows. Make sure you've got the latest chipset drivers from the AMD website and check for any BIOS updates too, especially if anything mentions TPM—it could be worth disabling your Windows pin login temporarily while you do the update.

I did swap out my keyboard for a new one and tried different USB ports. Looking into the USB root hub power management, I noticed not all options in Device Manager had the 'power management' tab.

I hope it’s the PSU since I’ve been having issues with it recently. I did all the DISM stuff except "fixing problems with DISM using install.wim" because I don’t have an external drive right now—ordering one soon!

Also, I learned that my BIOS is out of date and plan to update it for the first time ever! Thanks for your help!
