How can I improve my keyboard shortcuts and navigation skills for programming?

I'm getting into programming and realized I don't have much experience with keyboard shortcuts or navigation. I knew the basics like copy, cut, paste, and undo, but that's about it. Recently, I've learned touch typing and switched to a split keyboard for comfort, but my workflow is still suffering. I'm spending too much time navigating around my editor (currently VSCode) instead of focusing on my code. Any tips on how to enhance my keyboard shortcut skills? Also, I've heard a lot about 'vim motions'—what are those exactly?

Vim motions refer to how you navigate and manipulate text in Vim. It's a widely used method in various software. You can actually enable Vim mode in VSCode to get a sense of it. If you enjoy it, consider exploring Neovim or Doom Emacs. Plus, you might want to look into using a tiling window manager like i3 or Hyprland for more efficient keyboard navigation.

While I'm not exactly a shortcut expert, you should definitely check out Raycast. It could really help streamline your workflow and boost your efficiency!

Try searching for "Keyboard Cheat Sheet ", like "Keyboard Cheat Sheet VSCode." You'll likely find an official PDF that lists all the shortcuts. Print it out and keep it near your workspace so you can refer to it easily. Make it a habit to check for shortcuts before reaching for the mouse, and over time, you'll naturally learn them!

Jump onto Google and type "VS Code shortcuts." You can also check the shortcuts preferences in your editor to find actions you use often. If they lack assigned shortcuts, create your own! Write down important shortcuts to help memorize them. Focus on a few at a time until they feel automatic, then move on to the next ones!

For a lot of my needs, I just hit Ctrl + P. It handles about 90% of the tasks I need to do quickly!

I don't use many shortcuts myself since I lean towards GUI, but I find the "open class" shortcut super useful. It lets me quickly find files by typing a few letters of the name. Very handy!
