Laptop Dilemma: Water Spill Before Exam!

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a panic here. I spilled a whole cup of water on my laptop, which I absolutely need for my final exam in just a few hours. I turned it off right away (I hope) but there's still a faint light next to the power button. When I pressed it, the fans went wild for a moment but nothing else happened. I've read online that I should leave it untouched for a couple of days, but that just isn't an option for me right now. I really don't know much about tech, can anyone give me some advice on what to do to maybe save my laptop before my exam? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I really hate to say it, but it sounds like your motherboard could be fried from the spill. I had a similar situation with a Lenovo once, and powering it back on too soon just made it worse. If it’s already not turning on properly, the best thing might just be to let it dry out and hope for the best. Good luck!

It sounds like you might be in serious trouble with that spill! First off, check if you have backups elsewhere, like on a cloud service. If not, your best bet might be to take it to a repair shop. They can sometimes recover files even if the laptop is beyond repair. And hopefully, this teaches you the importance of backing up your work!

Yeah, I didn’t think about backups until now. But with the time crunch, I just need to know if there’s any quick fix to dry it out and save it.
