Laptop Opening Random Windows – Is It Software or Hardware Issues?

I've been having this annoying issue with my laptop for as long as I can remember. Honestly, I know I should have taken better care of it when I got it, but as a broke college student, that hasn't been easy. Lately, it's been opening a lot of windows and tabs on its own, and it's become practically unusable. I've run Windows Defender and other scans countless times to no avail. In the past, I even had the operating system replaced by Geek Squad. I've owned this laptop for around three years now. I'm heading to Geek Squad tomorrow, but I'd love to hear any other advice. Should I think about getting a new laptop, or is it worth continuing to repair it?

I’d recommend reinstalling Windows first. You can buy a flash drive and use Rufus to create a bootable drive. Seriously, don’t waste money on Geek Squad for their virus removal or any other services; you can do it yourself!

If you’ve tried reinstalling the OS and the problem doesn't go away, it sounds like a hardware issue. You may be dealing with faulty components inside your laptop.

You might also want to check if the problem is with your keyboard. Try using an online keyboard tester. Sometimes stuck keys can cause those random openings!

You might be onto something there; my scroll pad doesn't seem to work properly either.

Are you using the built-in touchpad or an external mouse? I had similar problems because my touchpad was going haywire. It worked fine when I switched to an external mouse.

I actually use an external mouse.

You should definitely run MalwareBytes if you haven't already. It does a good job of catching hidden threats. Just be cautious because I've seen it clear some files automatically, so keep an eye on what it removes!

I've used MalwareBytes in the past and followed its guidelines for deleting files. It has cleared some items on its own too.
