I have an Omen 16 Slim that I bought last year, and it has already given me several problems. I picked it up with one hand while the screen was open, and afterward it started typing backward, scrolling on its own, and generally behaving strangely. The cursor and keyboard still respond, but restarting did not help. I cannot afford a replacement, and my classes start Monday. What should I check before resorting to a repair or reinstall?

Check whether a key or touchpad contact is stuck. An accidentally held navigation key, touchpad gesture, or faulty keyboard connection could explain the reversed typing and automatic scrolling. Try an external keyboard and mouse to see whether the behavior changes.
The fact that it changed after being moved suggests a loose connection or pressure on the keyboard or touchpad, especially if the chassis flexed when you picked it up. Avoid bending it back or forcing the case. If the issue returns, back up your files and contact the manufacturer while the warranty is still available.
Before reinstalling Windows, run Windows Update, including optional driver updates, and update the keyboard, touchpad, and chipset drivers. If that does not help, use Windows repair tools rather than immediately doing a clean install. Also check whether any preinstalled utilities are causing the input problems.

I set the laptop on its side with the lid closed while packing, and when I checked it later the problem had disappeared. I have no idea why, but I am still worried it could come back.
