Leaving Electronics in a Hot Car – How Risky is It?

I'm catching a flight tomorrow and will be away for about 24 hours without any hotel. Since I'm going to a concert, I can't bring my laptop and iPad with me, and I have nowhere else to store them because my hometown is two hours from the airport. I'm especially concerned because the car will be parked in a concrete garage where it can get super hot, with temperatures reaching 96°F that day. Should I just leave them back home and make the longer drive later, or is it safe to leave them in the car? My only other option is to put them in a storage locker, but that's not something my mom supports. Any advice would be appreciated!

If you need to leave your electronics in the car, it’s better to hide them and keep them off. The trunk is a safer option since it’s out of sight and less affected by heat. Ideally, don’t leave them visible to prevent theft. If you have to leave your iPad in the car, turn it off and tuck it under a seat to shield it from the sun. Even in a closed car, the temperatures can climb quickly!

Thanks for the tip! But since it’s a garage, I hope the sunlight won't be a big issue.

I read that the interior of a car can heat up quite a bit, even in a garage. It can get 43°F hotter after about an hour! I’d be cautious leaving your devices in a hot car for an extended period—it might damage the battery, especially in a concrete setting where heat can build up.

Yikes, that sounds concerning! I think I’ll look for a better storage option.”}]},{

As long as the iPad and laptop aren’t in direct sunlight, they should be fine in the garage. Just keep in mind that hot weather can still pose risks, especially for batteries. If you can, cracking the windows a bit might help keep the car’s interior cooler, but be careful about leaving them exposed to thieves. Locking them out of sight is key.

Got it! That makes sense, thanks!
