Looking for a Beginner-Friendly Linux Distro for Gaming and Programming

Hey everyone! I just started an internship as a developer using PHP and Laravel, and my team is all about Linux Mint. I've gotten used to it, and now I'm thinking about making the switch on my personal PC as well. My only concern is my love for gaming—I want to make sure I don't lose out on performance or run into compatibility issues with my games. So, I'm looking for recommendations for a Linux distro that works great for both coding and gaming. Any suggestions for something that's beginner-friendly yet offers good performance and compatibility? Here are my specs: 10th Gen Intel i5, 16GB RAM, 500GB SSD, and a B550M motherboard.

Before switching, check out ProtonDB and AreWeAntiCheat to see how your favorite games perform on Linux. If you find that the games you play are rated low for compatibility, it might be worth holding off on the switch. For a smooth experience, Mint, Ubuntu, or Fedora are great choices due to their vast support and plenty of guides.

I think you should stick with Mint! Your hardware is solid, and gaming performance won't vary much across different Ubuntu-based or Fedora-based distros. If you're feeling adventurous, Manjaro is also a great option since it's a smooth introduction to Arch without a complicated setup.

You can absolutely game on Mint too! By the way, what's your GPU? That could affect your gaming experience on Linux.

You could also give Cachy or Nobara a try, especially when it comes to gaming. If you're planning to use KDE Plasma, Cachy is highly recommended!

You might want to check out Fedora. It’s got the latest software, which is a bonus for both gaming and programming. Plus, it includes Podman as a replacement for Docker, adding some versatility.
