Looking for a Good Upper-Budget Motherboard for My AMD Build

I'm upgrading my PC primarily for gaming, with potential future uses for coding and IT stuff since I'm studying Computer Science. I already have an AMD RX 7900XTX and I'm planning to get a 9800X3D along with 32GB of 6000 CL30 RAM. My budget for a motherboard is around 350€, and I hope to find something that lasts at least 6-7 years without needing a replacement.

I've found a couple of options:
1. MSI MAG X870E Tomahawk WiFi for about 280€ in Germany. It lacks RGB lighting and seems quite minimalist, but I'm unsure if it's last generation.
2. Gigabyte X870E Aorus Pro Ice for 320€. It's visually appealing with its black and white design, but I've seen some mixed reviews about its quality and missing features.

I know the Carbon WiFi is a good choice, but at around 460€, it's just out of my budget. I'm wondering if you recommend either of these or if there are better alternatives in my price range, ideally with RGB.

Honestly, RGB on the motherboard is overrated. It’s not visible after you’ve built your PC anyway. The X870 is loaded with features you might not even use, so a B850 would suffice. If RGB is a must, the ROG Strix series typically offers that without the hefty price tag. I think you should focus more on performance than aesthetics, plus the Tomahawk at 280€ is a solid choice if you don’t mind the lack of lighting!

Good point! With RGB on other parts of the setup, does the motherboard lighting even matter? Is the Tomahawk WiFi worth it for 280€, in your opinion? What would be your top pick?

The X870E chipset is actually the latest for AMD, so you’re in good hands there! If you’re looking for ARGB, you don’t have to pay a premium for it. Many B650/B850 boards come with ARGB headers, which can save you money. For example, the B650 EAGLE AX is among the more affordable choices with multiple ARGB headers and should work perfectly for your build without breaking the bank. Plus, it’s ready for your 9800X3D without needing a BIOS update.

I just need ARGB headers; I want the latest features like PCIe 5.0 and USB 4.0 so I can avoid upgrades later.

If RGB isn't a concern, would the Tomahawk WiFi still be a solid option at this price?
