Looking for a New Daily Driver After Dropping Windows 11 – Any Suggestions?

Hey everyone! So, I accidentally deleted my Windows installation while experimenting with different Linux distros. I'm relatively new to Linux and have been learning as I go along. Right now, I haven't decided if I want to reinstall Windows; I'm considering challenging myself to rely solely on Linux for the time being.

Typically, people suggest Linux Mint, but I have a couple of criteria: I had a smoother experience with Wayland as an NVIDIA user (specifically, I have an RTX 3080Ti), and I prefer the KDE Plasma desktop environment. Mint does offer Wayland support, but it's still in an experimental phase and hasn't performed well for me. Although I can install KDE on Mint, it would limit me to an older version since it's based on Ubuntu 24.04.

Currently, I'm on Arch with KDE but wanted to seek out some community opinions before I dive deeper into setting everything up. Essentially, I'm looking for a reliable and powerful daily driver that helps with gaming, game development, and general usage. I'd also consider Debian since it's close to releasing a newer version, which might allow me to install KDE 6 quickly. Any suggestions?

You can create a bootable Windows drive using Ventoy if you want to go that route! It’s worked for me in the past. But I get it if it's not cooperating right now; sometimes technology just doesn't play nice!

Yeah, I've heard of Ventoy, but it didn't work for me either when trying to set things up this time. It's always something, isn't it?

If you're already comfortable with Arch, I’d say stick with it! It's a solid choice, and since your installation is going well, there’s no need to switch. However, if you’re curious, EndeavourOS could be a fun alternative with lots of customization during installation. You might enjoy it!

Endeavour has been a blast for me! You can customize it to your liking, and it's pretty user-friendly after the initial setup.

Honestly, if you’re enjoying Arch, keep at it! It sounds like you have a good attitude about learning, and you'll be able to figure out any issues if they come up. Mint is nice, but doesn’t offer the same level of hardware support as you might find with Arch. Stick with what you've got and have fun with it!

Haha, I totally agree! Thankfully, I had backups of everything, so I’m not too stressed about the whole thing. I’ll probably stick with Arch for now and see how it goes.

If you're looking for stability and ease of use without Windows, Fedora KDE could be a great choice! I switched to it and left Windows behind; I haven’t looked back since. All the best on your Linux journey!

You might want to consider trying out Debian with KDE. It's definitely stable and has solid NVIDIA support. I've been using it for a while without dual booting, and I haven't missed Windows at all! Make sure to take things step by step and enjoy the transition!
