Hey everyone! We're managing multiple servers in our data center and often find ourselves needing a portable solution to access them without the hassle of cable management. We usually take our laptops along but sometimes need to document BIOS settings, which can be tricky without a good setup. I'm searching for a USB KVM switch that can connect and be powered via the USB-C port on my laptop. Ideally, it should connect to the server via USB for keyboard and mouse and VGA for the monitor. I stumbled upon the Pi-Cast KVM but I'm not sure if it handles VGA input well. Does anyone have recommendations or experiences with similar devices?

You might want to check out OpenterfaceKVM; I've heard it's a solid option. Alternatively, Startech has a couple of models that could fit your needs. The NOTECONS01 is a basic one, and the NOTECONS02 offers virtual media and video capture features. They're pretty reliable! PiKVM could also be a fit for you. It's quite portable and can slip easily into your bag. Check it out at https://pikvm.org/ - it might have everything you're looking for!
Have you considered JetKVM? It’s portable but mainly supports HDMI for display. You might need a VGA to HDMI adapter if you go that route, but it could be a good choice if you're okay with that setup.
Try searching for "USB-C crash cart" instead of just KVM. That might lead you to some more suitable options for what you need!
I second the Startech one! I carry mine in my site bag, and it's a game changer for managing rack-mounted servers. Just a heads up, I also use a VGA to HDMI adapter with it, which has been really helpful. Finding a case was a headache, though! I ended up getting a case for an external HDD, which did the trick.
