Looking for a Quality Scanner Recommendation

I'm primarily using MacOS on Apple Silicon but I do have a couple of PCs, so I can accommodate PC/x86 software if needed. I'm on the hunt for a high-quality scanner that operates quickly and handles printed financial statements well—especially those with small print where OCR can often falter. My budget is up to $1,000, but I'm open to spending more if the scanner is exceptional.

I'd appreciate straightforward scanner advice without the usual back-and-forth about formats like PDF or CSV, or specifics about printing settings. Some of our contacts can't provide data electronically in CSV or PDF formats, so a reliable scanner is essential for quickly processing documents. Thanks for any suggestions!

For your needs, I'd recommend looking at Epson scanners or the Ricoh counterparts to the older Fujitsu FI models. They tend to provide excellent quality and efficiency for scanning documents.

We need a little more detail to give the best advice. Are you scanning A4 size only? How many pages do you want to handle at once? Do you require duplex scanning? Also, think about where you’d like to send the scans (email, cloud, etc.) and if you need network capabilities.

If you’re looking for a desktop solution, the Brother ADS-3100 is a solid choice and works well for financial documents.

When choosing a scanner, think about factors like total scan volume, connectivity options (LAN or USB), the size of the papers you’ll be scanning, and how portable you need it to be. Also, remember that the quality of OCR is more about software than the scanner itself. For high-speed options, compact desktop models like the Fujitsu FI series are great, but for larger tasks, an MFP might be necessary.

If you're going to use the scanner heavily, consider renting a quality multifunction printer (MFP) from a local vendor. While it may be a recurring cost instead of a one-time purchase, it could be worth it in the long run. You can set it up to scan directly to email or cloud storage, which makes it really convenient.

Just be cautious with scan-to-email for sensitive documents like financial statements due to privacy and security concerns. Might be better to stick with file sharing methods.
