I'm planning to buy a Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 5 for my 9800X3D, but I've heard mixed reviews online, especially regarding its performance on AM5 sockets. Some people seem to think that the Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 is the best cooler out there, but I have my reservations about those Chinese products. I've always aimed to have a very quiet PC setup, which is why I'm drawn to Be Quiet! components.
My concern is that while a lot of these reviews focus on the cooler's performance under full load, gaming typically isn't that taxing on CPU temperatures. I also stream, so I need reliable cooling during those sessions, too. I'm excited about ensuring my CPU lasts at least five years with minimal degradation, and I'm looking into undervolting to keep temperatures lower. What do you all think?

You might want to consider noise-normalized results for these coolers. They measure how effectively each cooler cools while maintaining the same noise level. The Thermalright Phantom Spirit can cool better at the same noise compared to the Dark Rock Pro 5. You might end up wasting money going for the more expensive option.
Honestly, if you’re worried about the quality of coolers made in China, just remember that many high-end products, including Be Quiet!, are also produced there. The Thermalright cooler’s performance is solid, and if it fails, fans are cheap to replace. Don’t overthink it!
Yeah, but that’s still $5 for a fan. If you want something that lasts, the more expensive brands like Be Quiet! have a solid reputation.
Thanks for all the feedback! I guess my hesitation is mostly around trust and long-term reliability, but I’ll look into the alternatives you all mentioned.
If you’re open to different options, have you looked at the Noctua NH-D15 G2 LBC? I built a new PC with it, and it works great with the 9800X3D. Under full load, it stays around 76°C and is almost silent. Plus, it’s all designed and made in Austria, if that matters to you.
The Phantom Spirit is way cheaper than the Dark Rock Pro 5 and it actually runs cooler and quieter. Buying the Be Quiet! cooler just because of brand loyalty might not be worth it, especially if the cheaper option performs better.
But will it hold up long term? I’m just not sold that a budget cooler with a cheap price will outperform a premium brand.

Right, but short term results can be misleading. I’d rather invest in something I know has quality behind it.
