Hey everyone, I'm on the hunt for a stable and easy-to-use Linux distribution for my younger brother who's just 7 years old. He's currently using EndeavourOS, but I think it's a bit too complicated for him. His laptop is pretty old and struggles to run Minecraft, even with some performance tweaks. I'm looking for something that will make his gaming experience smoother and less of a hassle. Any suggestions?

If you're looking for simplicity, both Ubuntu and Linux Mint are solid choices. I've also heard good things about Pop!_OS. Just make sure he doesn’t have to deal with complex updates constantly, or that might drive him away from using it.
You might want to check out Linux Mint, particularly the Cinnamon edition. It's very user-friendly and should work well on older hardware, plus it's known for its stability. If you need something even lighter, the XFCE version is also a good choice for low-resource systems.
Yeah, Linux Mint is a classic choice for a reason!
Have you noticed what specifically the user-friendliness issues are? It's a good idea to pinpoint the problems since some distros are just more suited for gaming than others. Overall, switching distributions won't magically solve performance issues, but a simpler UI might help him navigate better.
One big issue he has is dealing with frequent updates. He just wants to game without all the fuss!
ZorinOS didn't perform well for him? That’s a bummer. You might consider going for a Debian-based distro since they tend to be stable. Fedora could also be an option—I've had positive experiences with it on older computers.
For gaming, you can’t go wrong with any distro, but keep an eye on driver compatibility. If he's using Intel graphics, it should be straightforward. Maybe consider disabling sudo permissions to keep things simple while he games. Just make sure Steam runs well on whatever you choose!
Good point about the drivers! I’ll double-check that for sure.
That sounds perfect! I’ve used Linux Mint before and found it very straightforward.
