My 64-year-old dad just bought an Asus Vivobook S and wants an operating system that doesn't have ads. He's not very tech-savvy, and I'm used to more advanced Linux distributions like Arch and Fedora, so I'm not sure what would be best for him. He mainly wants to watch horse races, and use applications like Excel and Word (which makes me think LibreOffice might be a good choice). He also uses some .exe files for his hobby in photo editing, so I'm considering solutions that work with Wine. Any recommendations?

He might find the online version of Office to be enough for his needs! It's browser-based, so it doesn't involve any installation issues.
I actually did that for my dad! I set him up on Ubuntu and got him an Office 365 subscription. It worked perfectly for him!
