Hey everyone! I'm planning to build a special birthday PC for my husband. He currently has a large prebuilt system and a laptop, but I'd really like to create a compact, portable SFF (Small Form Factor) PC for him. He travels a lot for work, so having a single, efficient workstation that he can easily take with him would be ideal. I've been researching this for over a month, but now I need some help!
Here's what I'm thinking:
- **Type of Build**: New build (no existing parts or monitors to reuse)
- **PC Purpose**: He'll be using it for design work, 3D rendering/CAD, gaming (mostly competitive FPS), and possibly streaming.
- **Location for Purchase**: Near Micro Center in the USA, but not exactly close.
- **Monitors**: Not needed since he has none to reuse.
- **Budget**: I want to aim for quality over price, but I know certain components can be pricey. Ideally, I'd like to stay around $3000-$3500.
- **Connectivity**: Both WiFi and wired options are necessary.
- **Size/Noise**: I prefer it being compact and low-noise to make travel easier.
- **Specific Parts**: I'm leaning towards a GeForce 5080 but wish I could stretch to a 5090, although it's cost-prohibitive. I do like the midnight blue Fractal Design Era 2 case but haven't researched its performance yet! Any thoughts or recommendations?

Before diving into the build, it'd be handy to know what his current systems look like. If you're aiming for something comparable, understanding his existing setup would inform your choices. Otherwise, you might end up with a mix-and-match list that could go over $3000, especially given that you don’t have Micro Center access.

I’ll dig into it! I know both systems are geared for gaming, and the desktop is likely an Alienware. They’re about three years old. I just want to make sure whatever I build can handle his workload efficiently while fitting into an SFF case.
