Hey everyone! It's time for an upgrade since my Ryzen 5 2600 is struggling with gaming. I could either go for the Ryzen 7 5700X and keep my current motherboard with the AM4 socket, or I could get a 9700 and upgrade to AM5. Money isn't a huge concern, but I'd prefer to stick with DDR4 RAM for now, as DDR5 prices are pretty steep. What do you think I should do? Feel free to suggest other options as well! Also, I learned that an AM5 motherboard won't support DDR4, so I'm open to considering DDR5 RAM too.

Considering you're keeping DDR4, I'd recommend upgrading to an AM4 CPU after a BIOS update. Look for the 5700X, 5800X, or even a 5800XT if the price is right. If you can find a 5700X3D or 5800X3D, those are great too, but they're rare and more expensive.
Since you're focused on gaming at 1080p, sticking with the 5700X is a solid choice. Just make sure you avoid the 5X00G series and those non-X models like the 5500 and 5700. You should've made this update a while ago when the 5800X3D and 5700X3D were cheaper!
If you're sticking with DDR4, your best bet is definitely the 5700X. It's the only choice from your listed options since AM5 won't support DDR4.

I didn't know that either! It's good to find out before making a purchase.
