Looking for Alternatives to Artifactory for Large Repositories

Hey everyone, we've recently upgraded our self-hosted Artifactory, but it's become really unstable. The support we've received from JFrog has been very disappointing, especially during outages when they couldn't assist us in real-time. Our artifact registry is pretty massive, over 40TB of data, and due to some regulations, a portion of it has to stay on-premises. We're on the lookout for alternatives that aren't JFrog or Sonatype. Ideally, we need something that's type agnostic—like being able to drop a .zip file into a Maven repository—and can handle large volumes efficiently, along with support for remote registries.

What version of OCP or Kube are you using? That could affect your options.

What kind of content types do you need to store? Knowing that can help narrow down suitable options.

If you're already using GitLab, consider leveraging their built-in package registry. It can simplify things for you and may meet your requirements.

You might want to check out Verdaccio or Pulp. They both offer support for custom artifacts and can be self-hosted at scale, which could fit your needs pretty well.

We had a great proof of concept with Cloudsmith. JFrog didn’t engage with us because of our size, but Cloudsmith supports all kinds of package types, plus generic archives.
