Looking for Alternatives to VMware for Enterprise Solutions

I'm on the hunt for enterprise-level alternatives to VMware since our costs have shot up by 35% this year alone. We predominantly operate in a Windows environment, so I'm hoping for options that allow for a smooth transition from VMware to another virtualization platform. What solutions are companies turning to these days?

I've noticed people moving toward Nutanix, Scale, AWS/Azure, and Proxmox. Those seem to be the popular choices right now.

XCP-ng is great and there's also Proxmox as a solid contender. Hyper-V might be your backup if you need a fallback. Just keep in mind that Proxmox has some snapshot limitations when using iSCSI, which might affect your decision.

I've heard good things about Proxmox and XCP-ng, especially the transition from VMware. XCP-ng has a built-in backup feature via XenOrchestra, plus it's open source. If you're considering hardware options, Nutanix and Azure Local are worth a look too!

If you're heavily using Windows Server, you might want to consider Hyper-V. It can be a solid option, especially if you're covered by data center licensing.

Switching from VMware to Hyper-V was pretty straightforward for me! I back up to Synology, and they have a built-in feature for restoring from VMware. I bet other backup solutions offer something similar.
