Hey everyone! I'm a 29-year-old electrician from Alberta, Canada, and I'm looking to switch careers. After ten years in the trade, my body is starting to give me trouble, and my girlfriend has been encouraging me to pursue a field I've always been interested in—coding. I've dabbled a bit with TrueNAS, Linux, and Docker, but I know there's a lot more to learn.
I'm seeking advice on the best path forward. Should I pursue a university degree or take night classes? Would online certificates help me land a job? I'm really interested in Boot.dev—has anyone found success with their program? I'm curious if it's worth the investment, considering I have ADHD and I think their gamified approach to learning might suit me better. Any guidance or experiences you could share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Starting with a CS degree is a solid option, but honestly, bootcamps have become kind of shaky since there are so many people competing for the same jobs. Employers often look for a degree or a strong project portfolio, so traditional pathways can sometimes carry more weight than a bootcamp.

Thanks for your input! I'm considering night classes for a CS degree. Do you think online degrees will be taken seriously by employers?
