Looking for CPU Recommendations for Gaming Upgrade

I'm planning to upgrade my computer with a new CPU and will tackle the GPU later. I've been looking at the Ryzen 9000 series, especially the 5 9600x, which seems good, but I've heard the 7 7800x3d might be a better option. I also considered the 7 9700x. My main interest is gaming, and I want a CPU that will pair well with a more powerful GPU in the future, like an RTX 4070 Super or better. Right now, I'm using an RTX 2060.

Do you already have an AM5 socket motherboard? What CPU are you currently using?

I’m planning to upgrade to AM5. I currently have a 5 3600x, and it's struggling with new games like Oblivion Remastered.

It really comes down to your budget! The 9600x is affordable and performs well, but the 7800x3d and 9700x are excellent if you’re willing to spend more. Just know that going with the 9600x will still get you over 100fps in modern games, while the higher-end models eliminate stutters and give you better future-proofing.

Yeah, I agree! I want to balance performance without breaking the bank.

I don’t have a fixed budget either, but I’d rather not blow too much cash. Plus, I'm aiming for 1440p gaming.

It's all about your budget! The 7800x3d is top-tier for gaming, but it's on the pricier side. If you're looking for something less expensive, the 7700x is fantastic too, and the 9700x is good but not a huge upgrade unless it’s only slightly more expensive.

If your budget allows for it, the Ryzen 5 9600x or Ryzen 7 7700 are solid choices. For higher performance, the 7800x3d is awesome but can be pricey. As for GPUs, if you can find the 9070XT around $700, it’s a good pick. Otherwise, check out the older models like the 7800XT which might be cheaper and still perform well without the best ray tracing capabilities.
