Looking for CPU Upgrade Advice for My PC

I'm in the process of upgrading my PC and I'm on the fence about getting a new CPU. My current setup includes a Ryzen 7 3700X, 64 GB of RAM, and a Radeon 6950 XT graphics card. Since I'm not upgrading my motherboard due to RAM prices, I'm limited to AM4 socket options. I'd love to get some opinions on whether I should upgrade my CPU and if so, which model would be best for my situation.

You should definitely consider upgrading to the Ryzen 5000 series CPUs. With a BIOS update on your motherboard, you can use any 5000 series chip except for the 5500, 5700, or any 'G' models. The Ryzen 5600, 5600X, 5700X, and 5800X are all popular choices and would give you a solid performance boost.

A simple upgrade to the Ryzen 5700X or 5800X would be worthwhile. You're already equipped well with the 3700X, but these newer models offer significant improvements for gaming and multitasking.

I recommend going for the Ryzen 5 5600. It's a strong choice at around 115 USD new and will work excellently with your 6950 XT for gaming at 1080p or even 1440p. If you want more power, check out the 5700X or the 5800X, and even look into the X3D versions if you're willing to spend more.

Your Ryzen 7 3700X is still decent, but if you're looking for a real upgrade without bottlenecks, aim for the 5700X3D or 5800X3D. Those would be the best options to really enhance your gaming experience.

To really see the difference, check out some benchmarks. For example, in FFXIV, the 5800X3D can hit an average of 333.6 FPS on max settings, while your current 3700X is at 172.6. The newer CPUs have considerable advantages, especially in CPU-heavy games.
