I installed Preload yesterday because I use multiple apps and heard it could speed up load times. However, I experienced lag and freezing while playing D&D last night, so I uninstalled it. Now I'm wondering if the issues were due to my internet connection or the Preload installation. Here are my hardware and software specs for reference: I'm using a Lenovo ThinkPad L421 with 8GB of RAM, an Intel i5 processor, and Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS. Could Preload be causing these problems?

I've noticed that some major Linux distributions have stopped including Preload by default, which might suggest that many users have reported similar performance issues. It might not be the best fit for everyone.
Using Preload on a system with only 8GB of RAM might not be ideal. It needs to keep shuffling your most-used apps in and out of RAM, which can create lag, especially if you're running demanding games or applications. You might want to consider your overall memory usage before reinstalling it.
Preload is designed to optimize loading times by utilizing available RAM, but with your current setup, more than 8GB of RAM would be beneficial. In fact, rather than relying on Preload, investing in an SSD could significantly improve load times, making Preload unnecessary.

So, at this point, you're saying all I really need is just an SSD to solve my loading issues?
