A while back, I used Twilio to send SMS through a little app I built. However, they started adding a "sent via Twilio" note at the end of every message, which wasn't great. Now, it seems like their API is entirely paywalled. Does anyone know of any free APIs that could be useful for sending SMS? I'd like to have one ready for any future app projects or even just for some lighthearted pranks on my friends, like sending them the "Shrek is love, Shrek is life" script.

Honestly, SMS services like Twilio exist for a reason—they need to make money. They can’t afford to let everyone prank their friends using free APIs! But if you really need to send texts, you may want to look into their pricing; it’s generally pretty reasonable, and you get good service for it.
Finding totally free SMS APIs can be tricky nowadays. Many vendors have shut down their free offerings due to fraud concerns. You might find some limited-time offerings or trials, but they often don’t last long. Just be cautious with what you choose!
That's a bummer. It seems like every time I find something promising, they're knee-deep in paywalls.
