Hey everyone! I'm trying to help a friend build a gaming PC with a budget between $2000 and $2500. I haven't upgraded my own setup since the pandemic, so I'm a bit out of the loop. Can anyone share what's new since the Ryzen 3500 and RTX 3070 days? I'm really looking for advice on parts and current tech trends. Thanks in advance!

For GPUs, the new AMD Radeon 9000 series is improving ray tracing, which is exciting. If you're considering Nvidia, the RTX 4000 and 5000 series are out too, but watch out—the new power connectors have had some issues. However, if you're going for a smaller form factor, Nvidia has some great options. Check benchmarks to see how they stack up in games you plan to play.

Gotcha! I was leaning towards Nvidia—I'll reconsider AMD based on this.

What’s your take on performance comparisons? I’d love to see some benchmarks.

If you're focusing on desktops, you have a lot of good options right now! For CPUs, the Ryzen 5000 series has been solid, but keep an eye on the Ryzen 7000 and new releases that support AM5 until 2027. The 9950X3D is the best for gaming, but the 9800X3D will save you some cash while giving almost the same performance. As for Intel, their newer generations like the Core Ultra series aren’t as compelling right now compared to AMD, at least for desktop gaming.

Thanks for the tips! Definitely sounds like AMD is the way to go.

Awesome, thanks for this insight! I’ll look into the Ryzen 7s and compare them to Intel.
