I'm searching for suggestions on a lightweight Linux distribution that's reminiscent of Windows XP or 10. I've tried several distros already, and the only one I've really enjoyed is Ubuntu. Any recommendations?

You should definitely check out Zorin! It's based on Ubuntu and has a gorgeous desktop environment. It runs really smoothly, plus there's a Lite version if the Core one is too heavy for your hardware.
I've been using Mint with the Xfce desktop on my old HP laptop, and it's working great! It's lightweight and user-friendly.
