Hey everyone, I'm a newcomer trying to move away from Windows but I don't want to break the bank on a Mac. I have an average gaming PC with an Intel 9700k, Nvidia 3090, and 32GB of RAM running Windows 10. I'm looking for a Linux distribution that is suitable for my needs.

I use my PC primarily for college and gaming, so I need to move my Steam library over, and I also want a versatile system for daily tasks like coding and video editing, which are essential for my studies. Although I have some IT background, I'm mostly a newbie to Linux, so I'm hoping to find something user-friendly and not too complex to operate. I'd appreciate any recommendations and guidance on setup!

For migration tips, look at various tutorials online. Just remember to use root permissions sparingly and validate your ISOs after downloading. It’ll make the installation smoother!

What games do you play? Making sure your essential apps are available is key. Not to mention, consider setting up a virtual machine for non-negotiable apps you need from Windows like Adobe and Office—could give you more options!

I definitely need Steam, along with some productivity apps like Word and teamwork tools. I’m thinking a VM could be a smart way to manage Windows apps.

Absolutely! A VM can work well for that. You could also look into wine for running other Windows apps on Linux directly.

Bazzite with KDE is an excellent choice! It’s modern, user-friendly, and comes fully equipped, making it perfect for newcomers. The KDE desktop resembles Windows, which helps ease the transition. Plus, it handles Nvidia drivers effortlessly—no need to worry about that!

I've heard of Bazzite too! Is it just for gaming, or can it handle other tasks well? I need something versatile.

Good to know! I’m looking for something that can handle both gaming and my school projects.
