Hey everyone! I recently had a few disk failures and decided to get some new NVMEs. While trying to move Windows over, I realized just how much I dislike Windows and Microsoft. So, I'm diving headfirst into the Linux world, but I'm a bit lost on where to begin. My main goal is to find a distro that will let me run Discord smoothly with global hotkeys and screen sharing, which I've heard can be tricky. I'd also like to continue using OperaGX, which would be a bonus. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Welcome to the Linux community! It's awesome that you're making the switch. As for Discord, there's a Linux client available. Just a heads-up, screen sharing might be a bit tricky due to Wayland, but there are clients like Vesktop that can handle that. For distros, I'd recommend Linux Mint Cinnamon for beginners—it's user-friendly and covers a lot of bases. But if you need newer packages or want a different desktop environment, you might also consider Fedora, which has KDE and Gnome options. If you have an Nvidia GPU, don’t forget to install the proprietary drivers using the Driver Manager on Mint. Good luck!
I'm a fan of Fedora for getting started! It's super solid and tends to stay more up-to-date than Mint. Especially for features like Discord screen sharing, you'll often find that it works better with the latest updates. Just take the leap and give it a try; if it doesn't work out, you can always wipe and start fresh! Good luck!
Thanks for your perspective! I’ll try Mint first since it was suggested, but I’ll definitely keep Fedora in mind for the future.
Thanks for the detailed input! Terminal usage doesn’t scare me, and I actually prefer a more customizable setup over a simple, user-friendly one, so I really appreciate the suggestions!
