Hey everyone! I'm new here and really excited to get some advice. I built my PC about 10 years ago and haven't made many upgrades since then. Now, I'm looking to upgrade for two main reasons: I want to improve my daily performance to eliminate lag, and I want to be able to play new games without necessarily cranking up all the settings to the max. I'm thinking of a budget around €500 if possible.
Here's what I currently have:
- **CPU:** Intel Core i7-4790 @ 3.60GHz (quad-core)
- **Motherboard:** G1.Sniper Z97
- **Storage:** 2x1TB HDD and a 500GB Samsung SSD 850 EVO
- **Case:** BitFenix Shinobi XL (not totally sure about the model)
- **GPU:** AMD Radeon RX 6600
- **RAM:** 2x8GB DDR
Thanks a ton for any suggestions! 🙂

It seems like everyone here is pointing to Ryzen for a reason! Ryzen CPUs are fantastic for future upgradability. I’ve been on the AM4 platform for 8 years now, and it’s been a great experience. The Ryzen 7500F is a smart choice if you want solid performance without breaking the bank.
If you want to truly future-proof your setup, consider stretching your budget to around €600 for an AM5 build using the Ryzen 5 7600, a B650 motherboard, and 32GB of RAM. You can reuse your current case and get a quality PSU for about €60. Keep the RX 6600 for now; it should serve you well for 1080p gaming until you decide to upgrade again.
To really make a difference, you're likely looking at a platform change. If you can score a good deal on a used AM4 bundle, something like a Ryzen 5 5600 with motherboard and RAM for about €150 would be a solid option. The Ryzen 5 7500F from Aliexpress is a great choice for price-performance as well—consider it along with a decent B650 motherboard for future upgrades! Don't forget to buy a good cooler like the Peerless Assassin; it'll keep temps down and improve performance. Also, doing a clean Windows install can really help out with speed too.
