I'm currently using Veeam for our enterprise backups but I'm curious about other options out there. What server backup solutions have you tried that you think are the best, and what features do you like most about them?

I might be a bit biased since I worked at Commvault, but I found it to be powerful for enterprise needs. Veeam is straightforward, though it lacks some advanced features that I've grown accustomed to with Commvault.

Honestly, I can't stand most of these solutions. The least painful for file backups was IBM Tivoli Storage Manager. It had a decent command-line interface and was reliable, but we moved on due to licensing costs.

I've been a fan of Veeam as well! Their backup and replication services for on-prem servers are top-notch. I also use their Microsoft 365 backup product, which works like a charm. Just a heads up, steer clear of Spanning and Kaseya; I've found them to be pretty unreliable.

Veeam definitely delivers! Druva's another solid choice if you need something different.

I've been using Rubrik recently and it's fantastic! It handles everything without the hassle of managing Windows servers or additional storage. Veeam is cost-effective, but you should be aware of its limitations depending on your specific backup needs.

What kind of limitations have you encountered with Veeam? I've been testing their software appliance and found it quite impressive.

It really depends on your setup. As a managed service provider, I've seen different requirements based on bandwidth and retention needs. Commvault is great for enterprise environments that need robust offsite backup layers, while Metallic works wonders for Microsoft 365 long-term retention. If bandwidth is tight, Datto offers a nice local solution. Just make sure you understand the cost implications, especially when transferring data between storage options.
