I recently inherited an old PC and I'm planning to get it running again. The hard drive situation is sorted, but I need to upgrade the RAM. Currently, it has two 2GB sticks, and I'm looking to upgrade to two 8GB sticks of DDR2 RAM. My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-945P-S3 rev. 1.0. Can anyone suggest trustworthy websites where I could find this RAM, or should I just consider scrapping the project and keeping the components for future use?

I think 8GB DDR2 sticks are mostly for servers, not general consumer use. The maximum memory per stick for DDR2 is usually capped at 4GB, so it might be worth checking your motherboard's specs. As for sites, I’ve seen some no-name brands on Amazon, but I’m not sure about their reliability.
If you’re looking for DDR2 RAM, you might want to check out Crucial. They sometimes have what you need. However, keep in mind that your motherboard only supports a maximum of 4GB in total.
From what I know, finding 8GB sticks of DDR2 is going to be tough. Most consumer motherboards that use DDR2 are limited to 2GB or 4GB DIMMs at most, depending on the age. You'd probably be better off sticking with what you have. But if you really want to try, eBay could be your best bet for finding any used options.
Honestly, with your motherboard being so old, you might be better off scrapping the project. If it can only support 4GB in total, it won’t handle modern games well anyway. You could probably get a cheap motherboard that supports DDR3 for a little like $7. Just a thought!
