Looking for Resources to Prepare for a New SRE Role

Hey everyone, I just landed a job offer from a product-based company and they mentioned I'll be in charge of over 200 Kubernetes nodes. I think they liked my CKA certification and my performance in troubleshooting during the interviews. However, I'm feeling a bit unprepared because my background has mainly been in DevOps, not as a full SRE. In this new role, I'll need to manage P1/P2 incidents and participate in war rooms, handle multi-tenant and multi-cloud clusters, manage lifecycle tasks like provisioning and patching, automate fixes with shell scripts, and get up to speed on Kubernetes networking and security. I have about 20 days before I start, so I'm looking for resources—like blogs, courses, books, videos, or even personal experiences—that could help me quickly learn about running large-scale Kubernetes clusters, SRE practices, and automation. Any suggestions or war stories from those who've been in similar situations would be incredibly helpful! I've already added kubefm to my watchlist and am looking for something similar. Thanks a lot!

You’ll learn a lot on the job! Don’t stress about having every skill beforehand; no one expects you to match every qualification right away.

Yeah, I appreciate that. I was worried about starting with P1 and P2 incidents immediately. I'm feeling a bit more relaxed now!

You’re in for an exciting time! Don’t worry too much about the skills match; it’s pretty standard to feel this way. You'll do great!

I recommend checking out the Google SRE book. It’s not K8s-specific, but the concepts are easily applicable to Kubernetes. You can find it at sre.google/sre-book/table-of-contents/. It's been really helpful for me.
