I have an old PC that I'm planning to upgrade from Windows 7 to Linux Mint, and I want to replace my ancient HDD with a fast SSD. I'm not really experienced with building PCs; the most I've done is swap out the RAM. Can anyone recommend an SSD that would work with my Gigabyte Motherboard GA-X79-UP4? Also, I'd love any guides or videos on how to install it!

If you're feeling adventurous, you can actually modify the BIOS to use an M.2 adapter. But honestly, a SATA SSD is the simpler route and still delivers good speed. Just be aware that many affordable SSDs use low-end NAND, which can affect performance. I’d suggest the Samsung 870 EVO 1TB as a solid choice.
A regular 2.5" SATA SSD will fit just fine. Just note that this motherboard doesn’t have any M.2 ports, so stick with SATA.
You can go for any SATA SSD, but I’d recommend something with a DRAM cache, like the Crucial MX500 or the Samsung 870 EVO. These should boost your performance quite a bit without breaking the bank.
