Hey everyone! I bought my desktop prebuilt during the 2020 shortage, and I'm finally getting around to upgrading it. I know the market isn't great right now, and I'm on a tight budget, so I have to take this step by step.
I'm looking for advice on which parts I should consider upgrading. I just bought more RAM, so I'll be going up to 32GB soon!
Currently, I have a pretty low-power 400w HP power supply (942332-001), so I'm not sure if I need to upgrade that before adding any new parts.
Here are my specs:
- SSD: 256 GB L15194 - 002 (looking to upgrade to 1TB)
- HDD: 2 TB 2FR102 -020 (I believe there's a free SATA slot)
- RAM: 16GB 2Rx8 PC4 2666V UB1 11
- Graphics: GeForce RTX 2060
- Motherboard: L56019-601
- CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9700F CPU @ 3.00GHz, 3000MHz, 8 cores, 8 logical processors
I work in IT support, but I'm not familiar with assembling or upgrading PCs. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Hey! You have a decent setup for gaming already! Since you're looking to upgrade your SSD, definitely go for a 1TB option that’s compatible with your motherboard. Just check whether it’s SATA or NVMe.
As for your PSU, a 400w might be limiting, especially with your RTX 2060. If you're planning to upgrade the GPU later or add more components, I'd suggest getting a PSU with at least 600w to ensure you have enough power.
Your RAM upgrade is great! Just make sure it's the same speed and timings as the existing ones to avoid any issues. As for adding a HDD, if you have free SATA ports, you're good to go! And the 2TB you already have should give you plenty of storage for games.
Thanks for the tips! I'll definitely double-check the RAM specs. Storage is key, for sure!

Yeah, definitely consider your future needs when looking for a power supply. You want something that’ll handle a more powerful GPU or extra peripherals without breaking a sweat!
