I've been gradually upgrading my gaming PC over the past couple of years, but I'm at a point where I'm not sure what to tackle next. I enjoy a diverse range of games, from simple indie titles to demanding AAA giants like Cyberpunk 2077 and Helldivers 2. Lately, I've encountered some freezing issues in Helldivers 2 and suspect it might be my GPU or CPU that need attention. Here's my current setup:
- GPU: RTX 3070
- CPU: R5 5500
- RAM: 32GB DDR4
- SSD: 1 TB
- PSU: 750 W
- Motherboard: Asus B550M-A Wifi II
- Monitor: ASUS kg241y s (Full HD, 120 Hz)
What do you think I should upgrade next?

I’d recommend looking at an upgrade for your CPU first. The R5 5500 is starting to show its age and isn’t as powerful as the newer models, particularly when compared to the 5600 and 5700X. Sticking to DDR4 is fine, so just keep an eye out for those AM4 options in your price range.
Given your setup, I'd suggest considering a monitor upgrade. Your rig can handle 1440p in many games, and that would provide a significant visual upgrade over your current Full HD display. You should also check out some mechanical keyboards if you need a new one – it can greatly enhance your gaming experience!
A monitor upgrade sounds great! I already have a decent keyboard (Keychron K10), but I’m open to suggestions for budget-friendly monitors.
Right now, upgrading might be tricky since RAM prices are high and the AM4 X3D CPUs are hard to find. That said, if your games lean more towards GPU usage, you could consider upgrading the GPU instead. But given your performance issues, the CPU might be a better first step. The 5600 should provide a nice boost!
Yeah, I think focusing on the CPU upgrade is the way to go. I want to keep my DDR4 setup for now, so the 5600 could be perfect!
